Janet Baird Counselling
What I offer
I am an active listener and will help you work out what you need at this time and going forward.
I offer a space for you to be fully heard; for you to think out loud and process what has happened / is happening; to process thoughts, pain, emotions, and possibilities.
Areas of life I am experienced working with:
grief and loss
loss to suicide
traumatic events and the effects of trauma
impacts of illness or injury (the person or family members of)
family / relationship breakdown
stress, anxiety, depression
challenges to confidence, self worth, identity
working with adults from age 18.
I have been working as a counsellor since 2005. I have worked for a counselling service in Tauranga for 15 years, being the service manager and senior counsellor for the last 10 of these; prior to this I worked for a counselling service in Palmerston North.
My academic training has been in Narrative Therapy. My work is also influenced by neuroscience, strength-based and solution focused approaches. Narrative Therapy acknowledges that what has / is happening can be a dominant life-story at this time and potentially into the future. Along with exploring this significant story, its effects on your life and how to manage these, we work to develop other stories and skills to support you in finding preferred ways to live in the face of the challenges you are experiencing. These may be new to you or may be versions of others of your life stories
