Confidentiality
What you share with me is confidential however, there are some circumstances when the limits to confidentiality would need to be extended:
  • when there is danger in the immediate or foreseeable future to the client or others,
  • the client's competence to make a decision is impaired,
  • legal requirements demand that confidential material be revealed,
  • when responding to a complaint about counselling practice.

If a decision is made to extend the limits of confidentiality this will be done in consultation with the client unless this would compromise safety.  In this case I would consult with a supervisor.

My commitment to the safety of children means I consult with Oranga Tamariki, Safeguarding Children or a supervisor with any safety concerns for children/young people under the age of 18.
